This hike takes place south of’Agadir, the foothills of the’Anti-Atlas.
Levels and valleys lost: many Berber villages clinging to mountainside, meeting with small squirrels we call « anzid », plantations of « taknarit » (barbarian fig trees), tree,d’amandiers and of course’arganiers (oil of’argan). And with a little luck the possibility of seeing wild boars and with luck Gazelles.
TRIP PREPARATION.
LEVEL / TERRAIN / ROUTES: Our tours are designed for people with good horsemanship and physical fitness. You need to be comfortable with the “4 gaits” of horseback riding: walk, trot and canter of course, but sometimes also walking on steep, rocky mountain trails.
Days are generally structured as follows: 2 to 3 hours on horseback, picnic and siesta, then 2 to 3 hours on horseback again. The first and last days are shorter, to allow you to get to know our team and horses more easily at the start, and to leave you free for sightseeing and other activities on arrival.
HORSES: All our horses are bearded and their average size does not prevent them from being
both very durable and rather powerful, the fact that they are all whole horses
(traditionally we do not castrate horses in Morocco: sometimes we like to follow
the traditions of horses in Morocco).
should in no way impress you, or worse, worry you. They’re easy to get along with and pleasant
to be around, but there’s only one thing they won’t take kindly to: a rough, rough “hand”!
SADDLES: Classic Moroccan-made leather trekking saddles.
LOGISTICS: A vehicle serves as “rolling logistics”, carrying your personal
belongings, supplies and equipment. You’ll find it every evening at the
bivouac and sometimes at the picnic. Saddlebags are provided on the horses
to hold a few personal items (sun cream, water bottle, camera, towel, lunch).
ACCOMPANIERS: English- and French-speaking equestrian guide, driver and cook.
For groups of 8 or more, a 2nd guide is required.
ACCOMMODATION / RESTAURATION: Whether on the Atlantic coast, in the Atlas Mountains
or in the Sahara, all nights are spent in tented bivouacs. Classic” breakfast in
the morning, picnic lunch (based on mixed salad…). In the evening, the cook
prepares Moroccan specialties.
INDIVIDUAL EQUIPMENT: 1 travel bag (avoid suitcases), sleeping bag (for winter hikes,
it should be comfortable down to -5°), T-shirt or long-sleeved shirt (sunburn), sweater
(wool or fleece), windbreaker or light jacket, effective rainwear (cape), light pants or
jogging pants, swimsuit, headgear, scarf, sunglasses, 1 electric torch with spare batteries.
1 or 2 water bottles, preferably insulated (minimum capacity 1.5L), pocket knife, toilet paper
and lighter (for disposal after use…).
FOR RIDING: Riding breeches, boots or walking shoes combined with riding gaiters (mini chaps)
to prevent chafing. If you want to protect your head, choose a light helmet.
PHARMACY / VACCINATION: There are no compulsory vaccinations in Morocco, but we strongly recommend
a tetanus shot. We provide a collective first-aid kit, but each participant will need a small individual
first-aid kit to suit his or her habits and tolerance to certain medications. We advise you to bring:
anti-diarrhea medication (intétrix+imodium), painkillers (aspirin or paracetamol), 1 tube of vitamin C
may also be very useful, 1 tube of biafine to soothe “unpleasant irritations” and attenuate the impact
of the Moroccan sun. For maximum protection, it’s essential to bring sun cream with a high sun protection
factor, and a lip balm can effectively combat dryness.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: One of the aims of our rides is to bond with your horse. He will carry you and you
will “support” each other for 6 days. The best way for this to work is for you to take care of him: saddling,
grooming, harnessing, feeding – that’s what you’ll have to do. We’ll take care of everything else
(setting up and dismantling the bivouac, preparing meals, etc.), but we’re always happy to lend a hand.
WE SUPPLY: harnesses, saddles and panniers, tents, foam mattresses and all cooking equipment
(including plates and cutlery), as well as unlimited mineral water: there’s no need to bring products
to treat the water and make it drinkable.
WE DO NOT PROVIDE: Riding helmets, Mini chaps, Water bottles or Sleeping bags.
